The Learning Path to a Commercial Banker

Through a concentrated two-year program, trainees will acquire the knowledge and skills to be successful commercial bankers. You'll learn through a blended approach of hands-on and virtual training of:

  • what to look for when analyzing business and personal financial statements and tax returns;
  • an in-depth understanding of businesses, legal structures, why businesses borrow; and
  • how to bring in new qualified businesses to the bank.

Commercial Loan Administration

  • Collection and processing of loan documentation
  • Loan administration guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • File compliance

Credit Analysis

  • Preparation and analysis of financial documents for prospective deals
  • Balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow analysis
  • Loan presentation preparation for committee review

Portfolio Management

  • Monitor loan portfolios for timely financial statements
  • Collect, assemble, and review requests for new, existing, and modified loans
  • Identify credit risks and prepare loans for submission

 During the two-year learning path, trainees are required to successfully complete:

  • Principles of Banking through CFT
  • Certificate in Business and Commercial Lending through the ABA
  • Sales assessment exam
  • REaL Connections training
  • Product and services training
