JANUARY 14, 2010 [THURSDAY] 1:00 PM
KAREN GENINATTI, NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITIVE BODY BUILDER, AMERICAN COUNCIL ON EXERCISE CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER
3601 WABASH AVE., SPRINGFIELD, IL
The National Institute on Aging believes that, “when older people lose their ability to do things on their own, it doesn’t happen just because they have aged. More likely it is because they have become inactive.” An inactive lifestyle can cause older adults to lose ground in four areas that are important for staying healthy and independent: strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance. Karen Geninatti, a national level competitive body builder and ACE certified personal trainer shares helpful tips with us on diet, exercise, strength training, getting started on an exercise program and staying motivated. She will demonstrate proper techniques for lifting weights and answer your questions on strength training for men and women. At age 52, Karen’s newest adventure is competing in extreme stair climbs. Karen will be running to the top of the Hilton in downtown Springfield on February 14, 2010 in the “Fight for Air Competitive Stair Climb” to benefit the American Lung Association. [She can do it in 4:49:09!!] Karen’s new book, “Surprise, It Is Not a Diet, It’s a Lifestyle” will be available for purchase for those interested.

THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA (With Special Guest John Hammond)
SANGAMON AUDITORIUM, SPRINGFIELD, IL
Formed some six and a half decades ago, The Blind Boys of Alabama are the Iron Men of the music industry. Even in their 70s, they are still at the top of the gospel charts and have earned impressive “three-peat” honors by winning consecutive Grammy Awards for the past three years. When the group first started singing in Alabama in 1939, few people would have ever envisioned the Blind Boys performing beyond a small circuit of Southern, black-community churches. By the 1980s, however, the group’s breakthrough appearance in an Obie award-winning musical – “The Gospel At Colonus” starring Morgan Freeman — led to diverse popularity far beyond the Blind Boys’ original core following. Since then the Blind Boys have released or reissued nearly 30 albums, five of which – “Down In New Orleans,” “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” “Higher Ground,” “Spirit of the Century,” and “There Will Be A Light” (a collaboration with Ben Harper) – have garnered Grammy awards. What’s more, the Recording Academy also honored the Blind Boys with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
No driving, no parking, let us drop you off at the door.
Cost: $45 includes ticket and transportation to and from Sangamon Auditorium.
RESERVATION AND PAYMENT DUE BY FEBRUARY 3, 2010.
