About Us – Town & Country Bank of Springfield
Springfield, Illinois

2007 marks the 45th anniversary of Town & Country Bank of Springfield – Springfield’s oldest community bank founded in 1962.  We are a Bank committed to serving our customers by providing innovative solutions to make banking easy.

It began with one location and a meager $1.6 million in assets, and has grown into $250+ million asset bank today. Town & Country Bank of Springfield attributes its success to its employees and customer service, and the pioneering spirit of our founder, Henry Kirschner.  Town & Country Bank of Springfield operates today with the same innovative ideals and focus on the customer that Mr. Kirschner established as President of the Bank.

Exemplifying the entrepreneurial nature of its founder, the Bank itself has undergone many changes in its 44 years of existence.  The original bank building was located at 2401 South MacArthur Boulevard in the northeast corner of the Town & Country Shopping Center.  It was the first bank in Springfield to offer a 24 hour cash dispenser - or as we know it now, an ATM.

In 1973 the headquarters for the Town & Country Bank of Springfield was built  at the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and Ash Street.  The architectural design of the facility at 1925 South MacArthur was as stunning then as it is now.   From there it was on to White Oaks Mall in 1978, relocating to a full-service facility on the lower level in 1982.  Another branch facility was added at 2401 Wabash Avenue at the entrance to the White Oaks Mall in 1988.   In 2001, the 28,000 square foot branch facility was built at 3601 Wabash Avenue.  This facility, besides providing a full service banking branch, houses all operational support functions and the Town and Country Financial Corporation which is the holding company of the Town & Country Bank of Springfield.  And last but not finally, the newest branch at 2601 North Dirksen Parkway was opened in January of 2005.

Mr. J. Michael Houston joined the Bank in 2005 as President.  Mr. Houston has been a small business owner himself and therefore understands the challenges and rewards of running a business.  He is also a former mayor of Springfield.  Mr. Houston works hard to assure that Town & Country Bank of Springfield is a community bank that serves the needs of its customers and the Springfield community.
